Declutter Challenge Day 12 & 13
Yesterday was about sewing machines and all the accessories that come with them as well as cutting machines, computers, TV’s, cords , etc…. I have been working hard to get my machines set up with easy access to what I need.
Needles are on a quilted roll hanging within arm’s reach of my machine. They are organized by purpose and size. I use a lot of different threads so I change my needle quite often. Sometimes I barely use on so I put them back horizonal in the square I got it from. I also put a colored pin in the square that represents the needle in my machine. All my needed tools are near their respective machine. I added PVC height adjustments to my small table for my computer and switched my chairs to better fit the height of my machines. With everything organized I spent time working on my treadle machine. I got it working correctly but I have not mastered treadling. Instead of the wheel continuing to come towards me it tends to rock back and forth or turn the wrong direction. This is not good for anything but thread nests. I practiced for a couple of hours but was only able to keep it going for 5 minutes. Stoped to get some other sewing done, but hope to have more time to learn.
Today was all about notions. I felt like I did enough with notions last year. My ribbon is above my ironing board for easy access. Pins are in small stacked bins and labled, beads and other things I use to embellish are accessible but not in the prime real estate. I did not want to tackle notions today. I did however decided to give away all the bobbin holders that fit my thread spools as I don’t use this sistem any more. Then I found two empty thread spool trays in a 12 by 12 box. Kept the box and donating the trays. I really felt if I ignored all my other notions, I still had to sort my box of elastic and velcro. I am donating all the velcro strips and dots that are not sew in. I found a set of overall buckles, brand new, and a set of shoe laces in the mix. Giving the buckles away and my daughter took the laces for her shoes when she came home today. I really did throw something away - stretched out elastic.
Worked on sewing my ocean scenes some more. Actually they drew in a bit further then I expected and I had to carefully extend the edges to fit the canvas I plan to mount them on. I guess Tuesday, I’ll work on the silhouette to add to each.
